Introducing…MAX
Last month, Hampton Roads Transit launched the first regional express bus service connecting all of Hampton Roads. The MAX, Metro Area Express, offers an environmentally friendly, stress-free alternative to driving to work alone.
The MAX is linked to five regional Park and Ride facilities and offers connections to major employment destinations, including Naval Station Norfolk and Northrop Grumman in Newport News. MAX busses make minimal stops, often just one before reaching their destination city, which sets this service apart from traditional bus routes.
Most MAX buses are new models that feature plush, high back seats and additional leg room to make the longer trip along the interstate more pleasant. This fall, MAX buses will be upgraded with secure Wi-Fi connections.
“HRT is excited about our new regional express service,” said HRT President/CEO Michael Townes, “With the price of gas consistently on the rise, the MAX will be Hampton Roads’ commuters’ best option for relief from their pain at the pump.”
The MAX is a perfect fit for all commuters offering a variety of fares: $3.00 for a one way trip; $5.50 for a day pass; and $95.00 for a 30-day pass. Riders are encouraged to sign up for the Guaranteed Ride Program, a service offered by the TRAFFIX division of HRT. This program provides riders a reliable ride back to their point of origin in the event they have to work late, leave early or have an emergency and are unable to catch the MAX.
